Drink profile: These wines are fresh and tangy, if you have a sweet tooth and expect these wines to be Oakey(like some Chardonnays) or rich(like the eavier reds).

Color: The paler the color, the lighter the wine, with colors ranging from lemon to light gold. A green tinge indicates that the wine is of young age.

Aroma: Extremely varied depending on the provenance of the wine. Generally the wines are delicately scented, with aromas of pear, apple, flowers, citrus fruits, herbs, and minerals.

Typically examples of light, crisp varieties include, in France, Muscadet from the Loire Valley and Aligote from Burgundy, Italy offers Pinot Grigio, known Pinot Gris in Alsace where it makes a fruity, aromatic wine, and the Trebbiano grape(known as Ugni Blanc in France), most notably in the earthy wines of Soave and in easygoing Frascati.

Muscadet	France: Loire Valley	Muscadet is a dry wine grape that is not strongly flavored. It is also known as Melon de Bourgogne in the most western part of the Loire Valley vineyards
Loureiro	Portugal: Northern regions. Spain: Galicia	Loureiro makes a lightly structured wine that is slightly fizzy, zesty, and clean. In Portugal, it is used to make Vinho Verde, while in Spain, it is part of the blend making Rias Baixas.
Chasselas	Switzerland, France, Alsace, Germany, Austria, Romania, Hungary, Chile	Some of the finest white wine in Switzerland is made from this grape, with great apple and citrus aromas.
Chenin Blanc	South Africa, France, Loire Valley, US: California	A major grape in South Africa, where it is known as Steen. It makes lean and light wines, with notes of apple and citrus.
Pinot Blanc	France: Alsace Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Slovenia, New Zealand	The wines made with Pinot Blanc are generally unoaked, and at their best, are fruity and well balanced.
Muller-Thurgau	Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Slovenia, New Zealand.	Known as Rivaner in Luxembourg, the quality of this grape is fast improving. At its, it is fresh, aromatic, and expressive.
Rhoditas	Greece	This variety has a pink-skinned berry and is often blended with other grapes. it is used as the base for the Greek wine Retsina.
Sylvaner	France: Alsace Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany	Sylvaner is the Alsace version of Muscadet, dry and steely, with citrus flavors.
Viura	Spain: Rioja, Navarra	The most planted grape in northern Spain, Viura makes wines that are floral with citrus and a balanced acidity.
Verdicchio	Italy: Marches	Verdicchio has a naturally high level of acidity. The best wine made from grapes is Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi.
Trebbiano	Italy, France, South America, Spain	Trebbiano is known for its acidity even in hot climates. The wine it makes is increasing in importance in the world market.
